Insanity Max 30 Work Week 1
So I just started the brand new Insanity Max 30 workout program this past week and I was beyond excited. Mostly because I was always a runner growing up and I truly enjoy intense cardio workouts. However, maintaining endurance strength has always been something that I enjoy because I don’t want to be that guy that could run 100mph but when asked to do ten pushups I fail! LOL!!! So a mixture of cardio and strength moves is so important to me and I truly realize as we get older cardiovascualr and endurance muscle strength is more important than benching 300 lbs. 🙂
How Does Insanity Max 30 Work?
So Insanity Max 30 are all 30 minute workouts. Being a father of 3 little girls and still working full time in law enforcement it’s all about having time. We are all just so busy these days. So 30 minute workouts is perfect. Even when your kids interrupt you during the workout you usually can find something for them to do just to hold their attention span for the remainder of your workout. This happened to my wife and I every day this week. We workout in the mornings each day at 5am and our 3 year old was up everyday this week. So we had our fair share of interruptions but made it work!
There are minimal breaks throughout each of the 30 minute workouts. Literally 15 second breaks to drink water is all that you get throughout the 30 minutes and you may get about 3 of these in 30 minutes. Yes this is no joke! LOL!! So it’s all about going “all in” for 30 minutes, giving it your all and finishing your workout. They key in this workout is your Max Out Time. Let me explain this.
What is Max Out Time?
So the theory behind this program is to max out which means you push yourself as hard as you can and the first time you either break form or need to take a break that would be your “max out” time which you will write down. The goal is for you to beat that time the next time you do that workout. I have to say after only one week I can already see an improvement in my times. The first day was a beast and today’s workout Friday Fight was no easier but I can tell that I’m able to maintain form longer and push myself harder throughout the workout.
Can I Modify?
This is what I love about this program. Anyone can do this because it really comes down to having the mental strength to push yourself. But the problem is not everyone can do all the moves. So in this program there is a modifier. But better yet you can choose an option at the main menu to view the modifier so throughout the workout the screen will be split with 1/2 of it being the modifier and 1/2 of it being Shaun T. This way you can see the modified version of each move. This is a win win for everyone! Beginners as well as advanced people.
My Struggles This Week
The hardest part for me was adjusting to the nutrition. You have the ability to eat types of food so it wasn’t the variety that I felt was lacking. My struggle the first 3 days was feeling hungry. I knew I was eating more than enough calories but my metabolism was increasing due to these type of workouts so I was burning through the calories I ate quickly. By Thursday my body adapted and everything seemed ok. But just the first few days it was an adjustment phase as expected. This is very normal if you go through the same thing.
Stay Focused
The key I need to remember going forward is to stay focused. My body is super sore but I know soreness is a good thing because my muscles are changing. I also know by pushing myself I will get great results because like I always say the magic happens when you get out of your comfort zone. Staying connected with my monthly online challengers also helps me stay accountable and motivated as well. Who wants to do a program like this alone without the support of people just like you doing the same thing. Keep pushing yourself and remember you can do anything you put your mind to. So don’t let this program discourage you. You CAN do this!
