Is P90X2 Plyocide Better? What Exactly Is It?
I wouldn’t say that P90X2 Ployocide is better but rather different. As you all know from the original Plyometrics from P90X it is all about jump training. Well P90X2 Plyocide is the same thing but the moves are harder and applied in a different way to give you the absolute best results. Also you will be adding in some more pieces of equipment to make it more interesting. P90X2 as a whole is all about functional fitness and bringing in new sports applied science to give you better results. For example, in P90X2 Plyocide you will be using medicine balls, a stability ball and a foam roller. The Medicine ball and stability ball are used during the actual workout. The foam roller and stability ball are used in the warm up which is much different than the original P90X. The warm up is longer as well as the cool down which is in important part to your success in this program. P90X2 Plyocide is just different and you will see what I mean.
P90X2 Plyocide Warm Up
So the P90X2 Plyocide warm up is very similar to all the other workouts. It is about 14 minutes long and involves many different movers. You start off using the stability ball for a couple different stretches such as the Stability Ball Twist, Stability Ball Squat, Side Stretch with Stability Ball, Alternating Back Lunge with Stability Ball and Atlas with the Stability ball. They all involve some lunge or reaching moves to stretch out your body. You then get into foam rolling. I have never used the foam roller until this program and I had no idea what I was missing. I personally got the rumble roller which has little nuggets on it to give you a deeper tissue massage. Learn more about foam rolling in my foam rolling myofascial release blog. You wll then get into some traditional stretching. A lot that has to do with your hamstrings. These actual stretches are called the Worlds Greatest Stretch, Inch Worm, Scorpion and Groiners. The first time I did P90X2 Plyocide or any of the P90X2 workouts I did feel like the warm up dragged on a little. But after actually doing the whole P90X2 program I realized what exactly was going on and how important this warm up really was. Let’s jump into the actual workout of P90X2 Plyocide.
The Actual Workout of P90X2 Plyocide
Here are the actual moves of P90X2 Plyocide and then I will talk about a few of them.
- Wide Leg Tip Toe Squat
- Killer Katherine Lunge
- Fast Feet Chair Jump
- Slalom Line Jump
- Warrior 3 Lunge
- Jack-in-the-Box Knee Tuck
- Think Drill
- Spartan Squat Lunge
- Super Skater Kick
- Depth Charge
- Frog Burpee
- Hop 1 Leg Slalom
- 1 Leg Squat
- Surfer Spin
- Power 90 Cross Hop
- Wide Leg Jump Press
- Launcher Lunge
- Toe Tap 360
- Flying Fighter Kick
- Set, Sprint, Plank, Plyo Jump
Some of the main differences between P90X2 Plyocide and the original Plyometrics is the use of equipment. Some of the moves such as Toe Tap 360 have you tapping the top of the medicine ball on the floor with both feet as fast as you can. Or Launcher Lunge where you use the medicine ball and lift up one leg and then reach in the air with the medicine ball to the opposite side. It definitely intensifies the burn when you add in some weight resisted moves with the use of the medicine ball in P90X2 Plyocide. Then you have some non-weight resistant moves but ones that are very explosive. One of them is called Jack In The Box Knee Tucks. Basically you squat all the way down like a baseball catcher but then you explode up into a power jump. This is the mother of all the moves in this P90X2 Plyocide workout. It a serious calorie burner that will get your heart rate up real high. In P90X2 Plyocide you go from some very specific slow isometric type moves into explosive movements. In one exercise you may not be as winded but your muscles are screaming because of the burn and then in another move your heart rate is up and you are seriously winded. This is a serious High Intensity Interval Training type workout.
P90X2 Plyocide Cool Down
The P90X2 Plyocide cool down has you use the stability ball again but you also do some neuro-integrated stretching which is basically using a resistance band to pull a muscle away from your body as you flex your muscle in the opposite direction. Tony Horton takes you through the whole routine and makes it very easy to follow.
P90X2 Plyocide – Equipment Needed
In P90X2 Plyocide and with any of the P90X2 workouts there is always a modified move that can be done that requires minimal equipment. It is for those people that need to modify a move or who travel frequently and want to work out in their hotel room. However if you want the full effect of P90X2 Plyocide then I highly recommend a medicine ball, stability ball, foam roller and either a plyometric box or sturdy chair because one of the moves has you stepping up onto a chair or box. Otherwise the equipment is minimal. Just make sure you have a hand towel to help wipe the sweat off your face from P90X2 Plyocide!
