Insanity Asylum Review. What Is It Exactly?
If you are reading this blog you most likely survived Insanity and you’re crazy enough to want some more so you figured I better read this Insanity Asylum Review. Well you got it!!! I’m glad you stopped by because I’m here to break it all down for you. As a graduate of Insanity and Insanity Asylum Volume I plus Insanity Asylum Volume II (review still to come), I can give you an honest opinion on this specific program. In my Insanity Asylum Review you will learn that it’s about digging even deeper! Yes I still feel that Insanity are the hardest workouts ever put on DVD but this is a different hard. In my opinion this is a more thrilling and exciting challenge. There is nothing like Shaun T up in your face with his motivation. I love all the other Beachbody programs but I can honestly say when it comes to motivation Shaun T hands down wins the gold. So lets dive right into my Insanity Asylum Review.
Insanity Asylum Review: Better than the original Insanity?
I don’t know if I would say its better than the original Insanity because that will always be an awesome program. But its different. Shaun T’s passion is definitely sports and it’s all about the game. You got to be in it to win it!! Insanity Asylum results are very extreme with this program. Shaun T is inspired by sports specific training and exercise that professional athletes use so he focuses on speed, coordination, balance, agility and power. How does he do this? First and foremost the agility ladder (seen to the right), resistance bands and the jump rope are introduced. Jump rope?!?!?!? Don’t worry! When I first started Insanity Asylum I hold no clue how to jump rope either so the first time through I didn’t use the jump rope and simply pretended I had one. One of the people in the workout actually doesn’t use the jump rope either so its all good!! However, after some practice with Insanity Asylum you will quickly pick up on it. I am overly impressed on how far I come. As for the agility ladder it definitely requires you to have a whole new level of concentration and focus in order to build the skills to improve speed and coordination. Shaun T tells you throughout the workouts to slow down because it is essential to use good form and master the moves. This is cross training to the max, with plyometrics, speed and agility, strength, power, core, and balance exercises. The biggest battle in Insanity Asylum is the mental focus you will need to get yourself through the physical pain. As Shaun T says “The work doesn’t begin until you get tired.” Well I was tired after the Fit Test. I did an Insanity Asylum Review short video of the Athletic Performance Test aka fit test. Watch it here.
Insanity Asylum Review: Can anyone do it?
This is a great question. In this Insanity Asylum Review I would honestly say no. This program is not for beginners. If you are someone who recently has had somewhat of a physical conditioning base then yes you could do this workout. But if you are someone that needs to lose a good amount of weight or hasn’t exercised in a long time then I recommend you start with an easier program. But don’t get me wrong I have seen people start with programs like Insanity and get great results. But most people will not start with a program like this. The most important thing is safety and so getting hurt doesn’t do you any good. It will set you back even further. But with that being said if you have somewhat of a physical conditioning base and modify the moves then you could start with a program like this. I would recommend you start with Insanity first to lay the foundation and learn the fundamental moves that are needed for Insanity Asylum.
Insanity Asylum Review: The Workouts
Lets discuss the workouts in my Insanity Asylum Review. In Volume I there are eight workouts and the program last 30 days. I don’t think your body can take the punishment that much longer. 😎 Each workout uses a series of progressions to take you to the next level. That may mean more reps, more speed, or better form but each time you will need more skills to master them. Here is a short synopsis of each from my Insanity Asylum Review.
- Athletic Performance Assessment: (approx. 25 minutes) The Atheltic Perfromance Assessment (aka fit test) is a series of drills to help you track your fitness progress. Take it before you start the program and again in 30 days when it is over. You will be quite surprised on how quick you improve.
- Speed & Agility: (approx. 45 minutes) This is my favorite!! Its an intense cardio workout inspired by sports like track, football and soccer all designed to make you faster, more fluid and more agile. The agility ladder is used a lot in this workout.
- Veritcal Plyo: (approx 40 mins) Take Plyometric Cardio Circuit from Insanity to a whole other level. Shaun T adds in resistance bands that will go around your ankles and wrists through some of the moves but you’ll jump higher and literally go vertical after this lower body power workout.
- Relief: (approx 25 minutes) This is a basic stretching and recovery day and the relief you will be looking for.
- Strength: (approx 50 minutes) This weight/resistance based workout is designed to increase your strength and power which are critical to becoming a better athlete. It utilizes dumbbells or resistance bands, a chin up bar (not required) and of course your body weight.
- Game Day: (approx 60 minutes) The day you been waiting for! It all builds up to this. This in an all out sports workout influenced by football, basketball, soccer, tennis, swimming, track, wrestling, baseball, skiing, and rock climbing.
- Overtime: (approx 15 minutes) After Game Day some days you will add in this 15 minutes of pure cardio demolition. Just when you thought it was over with Game Day this short and powerful workout creeps up on you.
- Back to Core: (approx 45 minutes) Many times we often overlook parts of our body such as our flutes, hamstrings, calves, core and back. In this workout Shaun lets you know these muscles exist and a new meaning of muscle burn is established.
Insanity Asylum Review: Equipment Needed
As stated above in my Insanity Asylum Review the absolute minimal equipment you need is the agility ladder and resistance bands. There is other equipment but you can go out without the jump rope, chin up bar and even weights. So if you are traveling its very easy to throw the agility ladder and resistance bands in your luggage. I can honestly say after doing many of Shaun T’s workouts I have learned that my body is my equipment and that’s all you really need. You and the floor! So don’t worry if you don’t have weights or a chin up bar. You can survive without them! This Insanity Asylum review wants me to allow you to realize that you can basically do this program anywhere. I absolutely have!
Insanity Asylum Review: My Honest Opinion
In my honest opinion in my Insanity Asylum Review I absolutely loved this program. Shaun T’s motivation is better than ever and the challenge your body will face is harder than anything you done. When you hear stories that olympic speed skater Apolo Ohno and professional soccer goalie Hope Solo are doing the program and giving rave reviews you know the level of intensity this program must bring. Here is one more clip from this program and to learn more or get this workout feel free to Go Here. I hope you enjoyed my Insanity Asylum review!
