Insanity Asylum Volume 2 – Elite Training Series
Insanity Asylum Volume 2 gives you the true meaning of what an elite athlete does. I just recently finished my first 30 days of this program and have to tell you I was quite impressed!! If you are someone who is looking for a serious challenge and don’t mind pushing your body to the limit then Insanity Asylum Volume 2 is for you. We all know by this point that Shaun T says “The work doesn’t start until you get tired” and he truly means it here. In the first volume you built a foundation of sports performance focusing on using the jump rope, agility ladder and resistance bands. In Insanity Asylum Volume 2 you will build on that foundation and use exercise moves that are used by professional athletes. The agility moves in the ladder become much more complex. Not only are they harder but they require much more muscle memory because they are longer and a little tricky at first. But don’t worry you pick them up rather quick. I was a tripping fool in the beginning but quickly learned all of the moves! HA! You will have more dynamic power exercises and use those resistance bands a whole lot more in Insanity Asylum Volume 2.
In Insanity Asylum Volume 2 Shaun stresses the importance of understanding that in any game everyone gets tired. But how you perform and do after you get tired is what separates the rookies from the professionals. After doing this program like the first volume I think one of the biggest battles is the mental toughness that you need. There were many times you simply want to quit and take breaks but you need to dig down and focus. Shaun T always tells you you can do anything you put your mind to in Insanity Asylum Volume 2 and I believe that. Throughout the program each exercise you do gets more and more difficult but if you block out the pain and push yourself you will get the results you are looking for. Insanity Asylum Volume 2 has been one of my favorite programs so far within the Beachbody collection I have.
The Workouts In Insanity Asylum Volume 2
Insanity Asylum Volume 2 has nine workouts. This program like the first Volume is 30 days long and during the last two weeks two of the days are doubles. You not only do the main workout but also do an ab workout or additional cardio workout as well. For those of you that did P90X and remember how difficult Ab Ripper X was the first time well consider this even harder! Lets talk about the workouts.
- Agility Tutorial – (approximately 25 minutes) Like I said earlier there are a lot more agility moves in Insanity Asylum Volume 2 so in this tutorial Shaun T breaks down all these agility moves in the ladder. This is a workout in itself so prepare to sweat during this training phase.
- X Trainer – (approximately 50 minutes) This is my favorite workout. It tests you in every way. Similar to Speed and Agility in Voluime 1 but this is total body power, core strength and agility. Your jump roping skills will also be challenged and you will learn new moves here. Pretty cool stuff!
- Upper Elite – (approximately 60 minutes) So we all remember Strength from Volume 1. In Insanity Asylum Volume 2 this workout challenges you even more. Shaun takes you through a group of moves that progressively get harder each time you do them. He adds in a little more to each move as you progress throughout the workout. You will be focusing on your chest, back, shoulders, triceps and biceps in this workout. Burn baby burn!
- Ab Shredder – (approximately 20 minutes) We all know that Shaun T isn’t a fan of sit ups or crunches and in this workout you won’t be doing either of them. But you will be doing some serious core work that will have your body trembling and anticipating the next break. Remember this workout is after your main workout so your body is already spent.
- Power Legs – (approximately 55 minutes) When I did this workout I felt like Shaun T was literally punishing me. The end of the workout is absolutely brutal with close to 6 minutes of squat pulses in the agility ladder. Throughout this workout you will be working every part of your lower body at a very intense level.
- Back & 6 Pack – (approximately 40 minutes) Shaun always likes to remind you that having a strong back and core is an essential part to fitness. This workout focuses on simply that. Your whole back and core both at the same time.
- Championship Plus Sudden Death OT (Fit Test) – (approximately 60 minutes) In Insanity Asylum Volume 1 you had Game Day. In Insanity Asylum Volume 2 you have Championship. Very similar in nature but all new moves and a lot of fun. I truly enjoyed this workout. At the very end you have your Sudden Death OT aka the fit test. Instead of doing the fit test first you do it at the end of your workout. This fit test entails doing a sequence in the agility ladder that does require you to concentrate and think because it is a longer sequence. However you do pick up on it right away. I actually paused it one or two times to get the sequence down.
- Off Day Stretch – (approximately 30 minutes) Time to take a break from all the pounding you get in Insanity Asylum Volume 2. This is a day to stretch and relax and help your muscles recover and prepare you for the next workout.
- Pure Contact – (approximately 25 minutes) This is a bonus DVD for Team Beachbody members. If you get
Insanity Asylum Volume 2 through a Coach like me you will receive this free gift. In this workout you will learn more explosive ground moves and how to move with a purpose. I enjoyed this as an extra cardio workout.
The Schedule And Equipment Within Insanity Asylum Volume 2
In Insanity Asylum Volume 2 the program is 6 days a week with your rest day falling on the seventh day every week. In the last two weeks on Days 3 and 4 you add in one extra workout. Ab Shredder on Day 3 and Pure Contact on Day 4. The weeks are pretty much the same and your days in Insanity Asylum Volume 2 look like this:
- X Trainer
- Upper Elite
- Power Legs
- Back & 6 Pack
- Off-Day Stretch
- Championship Plus Sudden Death OT
- Off
As for equipment in Insanity Asylum Volume 2 you obviously need the agility ladder and resistance bands. There are quite a few moves that involve some weights but I did it without weights using just my resistance bands. A chin up bar is not required but can be used.
On the Insanity Asylum Volume 2 wall calendar you also get an advanced hybrid calendar program that combines both Volume 1 and Volume 2. I have not done this yet but you could only imagine what this could be like!
Can Anyone Do Insanity Asylum Volume 2?
I guess my answer to this would be no. Insanity Asylum Volume 2 definitely has some moves that are played off of Volume 1 and the original Insanity. If you are an elite athlete I guess I would say yes but overall this program requires you to have a good foundation of Shaun T’s style of working out. Its not for beginners and not something to start out with. But if you are looking for a serious challenge and are already in pretty good shape then you should definitely give Volume 2 a try. You can check it out by going HERE. I would love to be your FREE Coach and help you through this program. I hope this Insanity Asylum Volume 2 was helpful! Feel free to check out my Volume 1 review!!
